Environ - meaning to surround, enclose, envelop - is an exemplary term that epitomizes the exhibition’s throughline. The works selected consider the many ways each artist engages with, responds to, and recontextualizes their day to day surroundings. Observational documentation of urban nightlife, quintessential sunsets, interior interactions, technicolor found objects, the unlimited nuances of commercial packaging, bold streetwear patterns, comical paradox, and the entwining flora in the city that holds it all together. The varied media works weave a tale of experience and observation that encapsulates an urban culture as unique as New York City.
