Meet Annique Delphine
Annique Delphine was born in 1979 in Wiesbaden, Germany. After a career as a fashion model and actress she studied with Meeno Peluce in Los Angeles, and then at Neue Schule Für Fotografie in Berlin (2008-11). She devoted herself full time to fine art photography and film-making after a period as a music and fashion photographer. She has exhibited widely since 2015, including in Detroit, Los Angeles, New York and London. Her films have been selected and awarded by numerous international Film Festivals including the Verona International Film Festival and the Toronto Arthouse Film Festival.
We asked Annique a few questions about her views on art, the creative process and her next steps in her career:
What do you love about creating?
For me, it’s just the most organic way of expressing myself. I love that it gives me the possibility of living my truth without amending it to fit someone else’s idea of how I should express myself.
What are your favorite materials to work with and why?
I’m obsessed with these rubber boobs I found in a novelty store once, and also flowers, flowers and more flowers. And leaves. Lots and lots of tropical leaves!
What do you think the biggest barriers are that artists face in their practice?
Lack of funds! All the great things we could do if we had more funds.
What are you thinking about doing next in terms of your artwork and future project goals?
Currently, I’m working on a concept for a documentary on birth control and the expectation that is put on women to carry the responsibility by themselves.
