Jose Baez is a visual artist who uses paintings, collages, installations and murals to deconstruct and reinterpret images. In his work he uses collage to build layers out of found printed material and paint. The process of taking a familiar subject and intentionally changing its meaning by abstracting materials, reflects his experiences as a self-taught and trained artist in New York City. His work focuses on defining ownership over the spaces we inhabit - finding visual inspiration from subway walls, gentrification, advertising and graffiti culture. Jose has been painting and showing work for the past 9 years including mural installations, art publications, gallery shows, and panel talks.
