Our residency fellowship is back!
We are thrilled to announce our 2nd year of partnership with ChaNorth to offer a residency fellowship to a PARADICE PALASE artist.
ChaNorth is a residency program from the non-profit ChaShaMa that offers live/work space for artists and writers to create unrestricted, surrounded by the rural beauty of upstate NY. One artist from our network is selected annually for this fellowship opportunity. This year we are opening it up to both our Starter and Essentials members - but they must have been a PARADICE PALASE artist for at least 6 months or longer at the time of the application deadline (January 15th, 2025).
What does the Fellowship entail?
One artist will be selected from our PARADICE cohort for a residency spot at ChaNorth this 2025 season. The current fees for a residency at ChaNorth are $1300 per 4 week session. PARADICE PALASE is subsidizing the residency fees for this Fellow, covering $650 of the cost to attend. *if scheduling allows, we can also break this into two 2 week sessions within the same month for two artists, as we did in 2024
Eligibility:
Open to both Starter or Essentials tier PARADICE PALASE members
Must be a member for 6 months or more at the time of the application deadline (January 15th, 2025)
Artists who have not had a residency before, have not attended one in a long time, or who have an upcoming project or exhibition and need space/time to work on it are encouraged to apply. We welcome 2-week residency requests to support parent-artists and full-time workers, but please note that 4-week applications are prioritized due to scheduling limitations.

🤝 Why ChaNorth?
PARADICE PALASE builds external opportunities for our member artists because we aim to plug them into art world experiences that propel their careers forward - by expanding their networks and nurturing their practices. Many of our artists have passed through the ChaNorth residency program (including co-founder Kat Ryals) and we have been graciously invited as a repeat guest to their studio visitor program. Over the years we’ve found that our missions of providing support, networking, professional development and opportunities to artists are in alignment. And not only that, but that there is an organic bridge between our artists communities already happening. So we are beyond thrilled to send our first Fellow to ChaNorth this year!
ChaNorth offers the opportunity for emerging and mid-career artists to work and live in the Hudson Valley in a supportive and secluded environment to create new work for four weeks. The program offers networking, exhibition and teaching opportunities and promotes awareness and understanding of visual arts in a rural community through engagement with the artists. During the ChaNorth residency, artists have multiple opportunities to share their work and network with others, including 2-3 studio visits per session from critics, curators, gallerists, and residency directors.
The heart of the program is community and sharing. Artists are invited to participate in public programs such as the Open Studios event, an evening of artists' talks and presentations at the Pine Plains Free Library, and they can even create and lead an hour-long free community art workshop at the Library as well. ChaNorth also sustains a successful partnership with McEnroe Organic Farm to supply healthy, fresh produce for the artist residency through a work exchange program. Shared meals resulting from this community service act as the anchor of the program, where resident artists gather once or twice a week for a potluck dinner.
ChaNorth also fosters a strong alumni community, helping artists to build lasting, meaningful connections to their artist practice and offering various exhibition opportunities whenever possible. A winter alumni retreat was launched in 2021 that provides past artists with work/live space to work on upcoming projects.
