Joy Ride AC002: 5/01 - 7/01, 2021

ONLINE SHOW

with work by Byron Mark Fredericks, Judi Keeshan, Lindsey Kircher, Keisha Prioleau-Martin

For our second online collection release, PARADICE PALASE presents a selection of artworks centered around whimsy, joy, fantasy, and celebration of self. In reflecting on the last year and predicting the next, we have entered a renaissance of creativity rooted in neo-rococo dreamscapes and unabashed celebrations of happiness and pleasure. The works presented center around playful expression, championing radical joy and blissful escapism as a lens through which to navigate the everyday. Vibrant colors, colloquial slang, expressionist shapes, and fantastical neo-surrealism anchor this group show. Works like Byron Mark Fredericks’ Sies Saa marry high hued gradients with slang text - an Africaans dialect - equivalent to the American English slang “sick” or “fire”. His easy-on-the-eyes ceramics celebrate the marking of his own place within South African culture and history. Like Keisha Prioleau-Martin’s painting “Laying In Forming Grass”, we are relearning the importance of slowness, of placing value on playfulness and leisure. Technicolor palettes, moon-lit fantasies and wavy compositions anchor Joy Ride as a new reality awaiting anyone who discovers it.
