Sudden Relics: 8/18 - 8/29, 2020
IN-PERSON SHOW
featuring work by Courtney Dudley
Sudden Relics is an exhibition of sculptural and video work by Courtney Dudley created during quarantine. Embracing limitations imposed by changes in her environment, Dudley digs into themes of birth, loss, transformation, survival and cruelty. After researching the primitive ceramic practice of pit firing, Dudley gathered materials already at hand and dug a pit in her backyard in Kingston, NY. What followed were a series of massive fires to vitrify handbuilt and wheel thrown clay, combust natural materials, and leave unplanned haphazard marks on the sculptures’ surfaces. The resulting body of work presents wall sculptures, fragmented ceramics, fountain vessels, and video.
Presented at PARADICE PALASE, 1260 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY
